Description
Beautiful late Victorian German “Piano Baby” bisque porcelain figurine by the renowned Carl Schneider factory (Unger, Schneider & Cie.) of Gräfenthal, Thuringia. Dating to circa 1879–1886, this rare seated infant displays mold number 825 with the classic incised “G” monogram and double-ended arrow backstamp, signifying an early production period just before standard export markings. The figure features a highly detailed hand-painted face with vibrant rosy cheeks, a large ruffled bonnet adorned with multi-colored spring blossoms and a red bow, and a white gown with delicate lavender shading.
Condition is very good for this exceptional piece of antique decorative art, approximately 140 years old. The porcelain body is structurally sound with no cracks or repairs, and the hand-painted details remain bright with no loss. Please note minor chip wear on the lower edge/base consistent with age and period craftsmanship. A stunning example of Thuringian bisque work perfect for collectors seeking authentic German porcelain, shawl holders, or vintage Victorian home decor.
