Description

Discover this rare and beautiful antique druggist bottle from C. Scattergood of Philadelphia, dating back to the late 19th or early 20th century. This square, panel-embossed prescription bottle features the original “C. SCATTERGOOD / 10TH & LOCUST STS / PHILADELPHIA” embossing on the front panel and an “S.B.W” maker’s mark on the base, attributed to the Saltsburg Bottle Works of Saltsburg, Pennsylvania.

The bottle exhibits a stunning light lavender “sun-colored amethyst” hue, a result of manganese decolorizer reacting over time, making it a striking addition to any collection.
Measuring approximately 6½” tall by 2½” across the base, this bottle is in very good condition for its age, with no cracks, no repairs, and only minor light wear and typical base/shelf wear. The lip/finish is nicely tooled, and the embossing is strong and easy to read. Any light haze or tiny bubbles are from manufacture and use, not damage. The cork shown in the photos is a modern replacement.

This is a fantastic piece for Philadelphia collectors, druggist/apothecary displays, or anyone building a collection of sun-colored amethyst bottles.
